Certificate Craze
 

For a growing number of Chinese people, to get some kind of certificate during their spare time has become a hot topic. From languages to business skills to teaching, certificates act as proof that the holders of them are skilled in something very specific. A resume with only an academic degree and work experience seems little persuasive, while certificates, like accessories, compensate for its weak point.

Admittedly, there are different purposes behind this phenomenon. Some people aim at certificates because of the fierce competition in the job market. So it is the certificates that make them more competitive. However, some others consider all the diplomas and certificates as important standards by which a person’s ability can be measured. They spare no effort to get the certificates for the sole purpose of proving that they are qualified in a certain field. Moreover, there are those who take this practice as a stimulus for them to study harder. They assert that, by working for gaining those certificates, they can broaden their horizon and enrich their knowledge.

In my opinion, certificates are attractive, but should not be over-emphasized. Other factors like communication skills and personalities are equally important. To conclude, we should try our best to improve our abilites rather than merely get all kinds of certificates.
