中国共产党第十八次全国代表大会今天上午在北京人民大会堂隆重举行。胡锦涛向大会作题为《坚定不移沿着中国特色社会主义道路前进　为全面建成小康社会而奋斗》的报告。胡锦涛、江泽民、吴邦国、温家宝、贾庆林、李长春、习近平、李克强、贺国强、周永康等出席大会并在主席台就座，吴邦国主持大会。

The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened Thursday morning in Beijing and Hu Jintao is delivering a report entitled "Firmly march on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and strive to complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects."

Jiang Zemin, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang were present at the opening ceremony of the congress, along with more than 2,300 delegates and specially invited delegates.

The congress is a very important meeting to be held at a critical time when China is building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, deepening reform and opening up, and accelerating the transformation of economic development pattern in difficult areas.

A new CPC Central Committee and a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection will be elected at the congress.

The congress will review the Party's work over the past five years as well as what the Party has implemented since the 16th CPC National Congress.

The congress will thoroughly examine the current international and domestic situation and take into account of the new requirements for the country's development and new expectations from the people.

The congress will draw out the guidelines and policies that respond to the call of the times and fulfill the wishes of the people.

The congress will make strategic plans for the overall advancement of China's reform and opening up and socialist modernization drive, as well as for the overall advancement of Party building in the new era.

More than 2,200 delegates, elected from more than 82 million Party members across the nation, will attend the congress..

On political structure reform

-- We must continue to make both active and prudent efforts to carry out the reform of the political structure, and make people's democracy more extensive, fuller in scope and sounder in practice.

-- We should place high importance on systemic building, give full play to the strength of the socialist political system and draw on the political achievements of other societies. However, we will never copy a Western political system.

胡锦涛同志在十八大报告中讲到政治体制改革时指出

--必须继续积极稳妥推进政治体制改革，发展更加广泛、更加充分、更加健全的人民民主。

--要把制度建设摆在突出位置，充分发挥我国社会主义政治制度优越性，积极借鉴人类政治文明有益成果，绝不照搬西方政治制度模式。
