编者按

 

目前根据《英语世界》（2016-04-04）和《21世纪英文报》（2015-04-05）微信公众号近期推送的以及在英文巴士网上所搜集到的来看，杜牧的《清明》已有12个英译本。正值清明节之际，林苑君亦邀请了班戈大学英语文学院许景城博士英译了杜牧的《清明》，此外在Translating China Forum中亦发现有赵彦春教授的英译本，在其他媒介还找到了唐一鹤的译本。故，此次小编所收集到的一共有15个英译本，是截止目前为之搜集最为全面的（如果其他好的中外译本，还望读者提供，贴于留言处，不甚感激。共同为传播中国典籍文化添砖加瓦。）。译者分别为许景城，杨宪益、戴乃迭，许渊冲、许明，赵彦春，吴钧陶，孙大雨，蔡廷干，万昌盛、王僴中，吴伟雄，徐忠杰，龚景浩，曹顺发，丁祖馨，任治稷、余正，唐一鹤。以飨读者。各位译者英译文化负载词“清明”上采用的策略不尽相同，大体上归为音译（比如徐忠杰，丁祖馨，任治稷、余正的译本）、直译（比如赵彦春，吴钧陶，孙大雨，龚景浩，唐一鹤）、意译（许景城，杨宪益、戴乃迭，许渊冲、许明，万昌盛、王僴中，吴伟雄，曹顺发）。蔡廷干别具一格地将“清明节”译为All Souls' Day，化用了西方国家“万圣节”的英文表达“All Saints' Day”。在英译“雨纷纷”、“断魂”、“牧童”、“遥指”、“杏花村”时，各位译者各有千秋。此外，在形式和押韵格式上，14个译本大体上有韵体（aaba，aabb，aabc）和散文体。具体细节分析，望读者自赏自析。河北卫视新闻主播红叶朗诵原汉诗，双语主播李强朗诵许景城的英译文，录音师张晖进行音频编辑。特此感谢。

杜牧

清明时节雨纷纷，

路上行人欲断魂。

借问酒家何处有，

牧童遥指杏花村。

 

Tomb Sweeping Day sees drizzles running ‘nd flying,

and hearts lost in gloom, mourners on paths crying.

‘Any tavern near and far?’ I ask a boy,

who points to Almond Bloom Vill beyond eyeing.

It drizzles endless during the rainy season in spring,

Travelers along the road look gloomy and miserable.

When I ask a shepherd boy where I can find a tavern,

He points at a distant hamlet nestling amidst apricot blossoms.

A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day(1);

The mourner's heart is going to break on his way.

Where can a wineshop be found to drown his sad hours?

A cowherd points to a cot 'mid apricot flowers.

注：(1) The Mourning Day begins by a drizzling rain and ends by the mourner’s sorrow in wine. This quatrain enjoys great popularity in China.

The rain rustles on at Pure Brightness Day；

The traveler's tired, his soul in dismay.

Where is a tavern? He asks a shepherd,

When asked "Where a tavern fair for rest, is hereabouts to be found",

Form an almost unbroken train.

 

“Is there a wine shop hereabouts?”

We enquire of a peasant lad.

“Apricot Flower Village yonder,

’Round clear and bright showers are so frequent;

Wayfarers on the road feel despondent.

“Tell me, Buffalo Boy, is there a tavern somewhere?”

The lad pointed to a hamlet with blossoming apricot trees way down the road.
