There is no denying that wealth plays an important role in our life and adds pleasure and diversions to our life. It was said that But we also hear that “Great wealth and Content seldom live together. Riches alone make no Man happy.”Can wealth always equals happiness? Of course not. Is poverty invariably equivalent to misery? No, by no means can we attach poverty to unhappiness. There are many factors that contribute to a happy life.
The word “poor” strikes many people as squalor and suffering, such as ragged clothes, tangled hair, smelly shoes, underfed stomach, skinny figure. To the poor, meals in luxurious restaurant are like fish in the air; magnificent and fine clothes are the moon in the water; rice and beans can be quite satisfactory. They are easily satisfied that even a slight change can arouse great interest, and add flavour to their life. They are not ambitious nor insatiable. They derive great pleasure from life. Just as a saying goes: contentment brings happiness. They are poor yet they are happy.
The poor have more courage and motivation to seek success. The rich rack their brains to avoid failure ,taking into account all kinds of unexpectation, hesitating whether to invest or not .The poor, on the other hand, make bold attempts to do whatever they desire, for they are so poor that they have nothing to lose. Therefore, the poor drown themselves in pursuit of success. They are active, energetic and absorbed. Even the tiny trace of achievement can sting them on. Work makes them feel substantial and occupied. They take delight in working. They are joyfully destitute.
Without much money, the poor tend to value friends and relatives greatly. As a saying goes, few people ,save the poor, feel for the poor. They have a lot in common, sharing joy as well as sorrow. They enjoy other's company, delight in the alteration of day and night, spring and autumn. They are needy but blissful.
Money is to life not what poverty is to happiness. Happiness is not up to wealth; it is a state of mind, a pleasant one, a contented one, a wholesome one. Spiritual wellbeing is more preferable to material abundance.(357 words)
