      Like a mysterious magnetic field, computer games have blown a multitude of people into the whirlwind, crushing man’s self-restraint so easily even to an amazing extent. As a hi-tech product, they were conjectured to assume a positive role to enrich life style of modern people via providing terrific entertainment as well as thrilling challenges. However, when the due distinction between a recreation and an overwhelming addiction is miserably blurred, people hooked on to the games may find themselves being eclipsed, teetering in self-indulgence and failing to be proof against the odd fascination.

      As is well-known, computer games have been tailored to the popular taste, so they appear usually irresistible. With luscious pictures, vivid sounds and tense interaction, they expand an inviting world where people go through all the joy, excitement and craziness vicariously. Since man features his curiosity and pursuit of novelty, both of which computer games have successfully aroused, he is fired with a sense of heroic mission to conquer the imaginary enemies, surpass rivals, in the game-process, and thus attain an unspeakable satisfaction which keeps him glued before the screen and forgetting what is his real mission in life. A full spate of stories may testify such a fact perfectly. Just take one as an instance. A college student is expelled by Xiamen University on account of his excessive absence of classes as a result of hiding himself day-and-night in the dormitory playing computer games. Such a misfortune befalls him and his aging parents who shoulder the life bitterness to sustain his study! The case illustrates what an awful consequence would follow if one displays no ability to come to grips with his addiction for computer games. When he entangles himself in an unreal domain brimful with ecstasy, but at the same time with a fatal engagement that leads him to nowhere but a dead alley, he is vulnerable to the communication with the reality and is paralyzed to such a degree that he cannot manipulate his own life any more. Can any defeat to man be greater than this?

      In the final analysis, as extreme eye-poppers, computer games are not only time –and-energy consuming, but also dangerously fascinating, which much vigilance should be attached to.
