Mental Depression: The Recurring Nightmare

The feeling is familiar to most everyone--nothing seems satisfying, things don't work out, you can't get yourself to do much of anything and your mental landscape is bleak. It's called depression, and few of us get through life without experiencing it at one time or another.
Many things can get a person “down," including the weather (midwinter doldrums are an annual event for some), the letdown after the excitement and activity of the holidays, insufficient sleep, too much work and too little time in which to get it done. The ordinary everyday “blues” is fortunately usually brief and self-curing and, although they take the edge off life, are not terribly incapacitating.
