German bull flees abattoir
BERLIN (Reuters) - A bull primed for slaughter escaped and caused a two-hour, seven-mile traffic jam after bounding onto a busy German motorway and repeatedly vaulting the safety barrier.
"The bull was aggressively running up and down aimlessly, leaping back and forth over the barrier and evading all police attempts at encirclement," said a spokeswoman for police in the western city of Muenster on Wednesday. "We don't know how it escaped."
After police cordoned off the road, frustrated and alarmed drivers looked on until vets managed to tranquillise the animal. Police then shot it dead.
"It would have got the chop anyway," said the spokeswoman.
